Post Surgery: Day 20 - Picc Line Placement

Zoe had a great night last night, but was a little cranky this morning.  Because she was going to be sedated for the Picc Line procedure, she had to start fasting after her 6am feeding.  By the time Transport came to take her down at noon, she was hungry and fussy.

After I signed several consent forms, the door shut and the waiting began.  They told me it would be about 2 hours, because it is usually very difficult to start a Picc line in small infants, she only had two sites that they could attempt the line and they might not be able to get oen started at all.

I should have known that Zoe had this in the bag, because she was finished in 45 minutes.  On top of that, she didn't even need to go to Recovery because she was stable and wide awake.  They decided to bring her straight up to the room.

After we got back up to the room, she was so alert and happy!  I have never seen her so alive and beautiful.  Just look at this face!  To top off a successful procedure, she ate 6 mils of fortified breast milk from a bottle for me.  It doesn't sound like much, but that is huge progress for us!
I then gavaged the remaining 54 mils and she was as happy as a clam.

You can definitely tell that the antibiotics are making a huge difference in this kid!  It is like night and day from the scare we had on Monday morning.  She is glowing!
